Discussing Performance is Key to strong Executive Director/Board partnership

Picture of Board MeetingEvery organization strives for a strong working partnership between the board and staff leadership. One of the common symptoms of a board that is still clarifying its role is the lack of a regular performance discussion with the Executive Director/CEO. At the most basic level, the board and staff should be regularly setting goals for the organization and measuring progress toward the achievement of those goals. In addition, the board should work to set some goals that are specific to the Executive Director/CEO that support the broader goals of the organization. Finally, it is helpful to examine “how” the work of the Executive Director/CEO is done and if end goals are being accomplished through means that enhance or detract from the organization’s work in the future.

The Executive Director Development Survey is intended to be used to either begin a regular performance discussion or to supplement discussion around organizational performance with how the Executive Director/CEO can continue to develop their leadership and management skill set.

Two versions of the survey are offered:
A) Surveys all board members and the Executive Director/CEO ($150)
B) Surveys all board members, select senior staff, and the Executive Director/CEO ($225)

Survey results are provided in a Summary Report in PowerPoint™ for review by a sub-group of the board and discussion with the Executive Director/CEO.
